Stormwater Construction BMP's
The Importance of Stormwater Management in Construction Projects
Refers to a set of methods and controls used on construction sites to manage rainwater runoff and prevent pollution from leaving the site. These practices are especially important because construction activities disturb soil, increase erosion and carry sediments, chemicals and debris into nearby waterways.
Residential Best Management Practice (BMP's)
- Contractor will maintain good housekeeping practices. Example cleaning of dirt, silt, mud, and construction materials from curb sides and project site.
- Silt is required around and in front of property, this will keep runoff and debris flowing and blowing onto street.
- Contractors will need a rock entrance if vehicles will be coming in and out of the construction site to prevent tracking mud.
- Contractor is required to have a dumpster on project site.
- Inlet protection needed if storm drain is close to project site.
Commercial BMP's
- Contractor will maintain good housekeeping practices. Example cleaning of dirt, silt, mud, and construction materials from curb sides and project site.
- Contractor is required to have a copy of the SWP3 on site at all times.
- Silt fence is required around and in front of the project site.
- Stabilized Rock Entrance to keep contractors from tracking mud.
- Contractors must place TCEQ NOI permit at site at all times.
- Contractor needs to assure that all concrete washouts will be washed on assigned washout areas as not on the SWP3.
- Commercial dumpster is required a site throughout construction phase of it.
- Inlet protection is required.
