Position Objectives
Under direct supervision, the general maintenance worker will be handling street equipment to repair and maintain potholes and drainage inlets/culverts. Operator also performs general manual labor involved with construction, repair, and maintenance of city facilities, brush collection, street cleaning, graffiti cleaning and signs installations. Must be able to operate Street paving equipment, tractor mowers, water pumps and dump trailers. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Job requires working evenings, weekends, and during all types of severe weather and other emergencies when needed. All employees are required to work on call when necessary. Individual works outdoors under conditions involving extreme heat and cold weather.Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs manual work such as installing street signs, pavement marking maintenance, pot hole repairs, street maintenance, picking up debris or brush, clean drainage inlets/culverts.
- Loads/unloads materials, trash, garbage, etc. onto truck.
- Operates equipment attached to truck while working on projects to repair streets.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and ensures all equipment is put away when no longer in use.
- Maintains a record of the equipment operations.
- Performs other related duties as required or necessary.
- Required to follow all safety rules and regulations to work efficiently and productively; must report all accidents and equipment damage immediately.
- Required to wear appropriate attire for the job duties and responsibilities; must follow and practice all city policies and procedures.
- Other duties and responsibilities may apply as required.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid TXDL (Class C) or better with satisfactory driving record; must maintain a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2-3 years related work experience.
- Must be knowledgeable of road maintenance/construction and/or storm water infrastructure maintenance.
- Must have general knowledge of TXDOT rules and regulations.
- Must have ability to communicate (read/write) in English; bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
- Must be able to manage time efficiently with self initiative.
- Must have ability to work well with others and complete work activities.
- This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to passing physical exam and drug and alcohol testing.
Must be able to operate light equipment; use hand tools associated with manual labor and minor repair of equipment. Employees working on the installation of signs may use a post hole digger, hole auger, air compressor, pressure washer. Must be able to operate work trucks and all equipment safely and effectively.
